I would like to sign the petition against future development at Huntly. myself and my familly have used the park for number of years and we are not happy about a potential closure, nor are we happy about the possibility of more traffic, in an area that already has conjestion

Hi is this development still going ahead or did they pull to plug?
Regards
Concerned resident of Giffnock
When I was a boy in the 1950s, we spent much of our time at the park.
A lot of out time we spent watching the men emptying railway wagons of artillery shells and the like into the quarry. We watched from the park.
This was an exciting thing for small boys.
There was a railway line from Giffnock station which went up to the quarry site.
As the quarry was filled-in, a little bulldozer was used to push the rail tracks closer to the edge, so the stuff in the wagons would fall all the way down. The men climbed into the wagons and used shovels to scrape out the stuff till the wagons were empty , and slowly but surely the big black hole was filled in.
This went on for MANY YEARS.
There must be hundreds of thousands of tons of old military stuff down there.
Are there records of this available ?
